will dated 31 January 1707, Gaspard Jourdan de Saint-Lager named his grandson Jean-Gaspard as his sole heir and replaced him, in the absence of other male heirs, with the daughters of his descendants. This was a wise precaution, as the vineyards and the title of Baron would be passed down through women for the next 300 years.
